Is there a trick to removing the ferrule from a pencil without mauling the end of it so that the pencil can be used in an extender?
I've got a box of Blackwing pencils that have a distinctively shaped eraser that precludes the use of pencil extenders...

Ah, I didn't realize that the ferrule was so soft. My little razor knife easily cut the ferrule off a pencil here at my desk. If the Blackwing ferrule is similarly soft, I'll have no trouble removing it when the time comes. If I wanted to transplant the ferrule to another pencil, is there a way to remove it without damaging it irreversibly? --flatline

I had actually meant for you to cut through the pencil flush against the ferrule, but that works as well. <G>
I just pulled the ferrule off of a Palomino Blackwing with my hands, with no great effort or damage to the pencil. It appears to have been held on with a spot of a soft, clear adhesive.

That is excellent news! I never use the attached eraser, but my kids do, and they really like the Blackwing eraser. If I can transplant the Blackwing erasers onto their pencils, then they would love it.
